Harris County ESD No. 17 / Little York Fire Department fills paid staff positions upon demand and hires based on qualifications, testing and performance.

Paid Admin staff position requirements:

Be at least 18 yrs of age

Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and be able to legally drive an emergency vehicle

Must have a high school diploma or GED

Must have an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years including:

a) No more than three (3) moving violations

b) No more than two (2) chargeable accidents

c) No convictions for D.W.I. OR D.U.I

Pass a yearly NFPA-1582 screening

Must pass a Background, Physical, and Drug Test

 

Suppression Requirements same as above plus:

21 and up for Driver Operator positions and above

Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) certification

Must have minimum EMT-B through the TDSHS

Must have NIMS 100, 200, 700 & 800

Pass an OSHA 29CFR1910.134 Respiratory Fit Test

Pass a yearly NFPA-1582 screening and be declared fit for duty

Must pass the Physical Agility Test (PAT)

Must pass a written test

Will be on probation until completion of phase training

Volunteers qualify as either Interior – approved to work in fire suppression and hold minimum of SFFMA/TCFP and EMR/ECA, Non-Interior – working towards the requirements for suppression and will obtain them within one (1) year of taking Cadet Class, or Support Staff – those not engaged in suppression. All candidates are subject to a background check.

We are currently not accepting applications for volunteers at this time.

 

Volunteer Requirements – Interior Fire Suppression:

Be at least 18 years of age

Must have a high school diploma or GED

Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) certification or SFFMA equivalency

Must have minimum ECA through the TDSHS or EMR through National Registry

Must have an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years including;

a) No more than three (3) moving violations

b) No more than two (2) chargeable accidents

c) No convictions for D.W.I. OR D.U.I

Be interviewed by current members

Must pass a Background, Physical, and Drug Test Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT)

Volunteer Requirements – Support Staff (Non-Fire Suppression):

Same requirements as Admin Staff with no expectations for fire suppression.
